Circle Urban Ministries

Organization Description:

Circle Urban Ministries is located in the Austin community on Chicago?s far west side. Begun as an outreach of an urban church in the mid-70's, the ministry took a significant step in 1983 when we joined in a faith-and-works partnership with newly planted Rock of our Salvation Evangelical Free Church.

Today Circle Urban has a strong and widely felt impact on Austin for good and for God. With programs to address family needs, poverty, housing, hunger, education, drug/alcohol dependency, medical, and legal issues, we have seen God?s love working through our hands and hearts to impact thousands of lives every year.

Not only do we seek to minister to the disenfranchised in our community in Jesus' name, we also have been called address the racial divide within the broader church. The book "Breaking Down Walls" was written by our executive director and the founding pastor of Rock Church (Glen Kehrein and Rev. Raleigh Washington) outlining concrete, proven means of overcoming our prejudices.
