TechMission Corps Administrative Assistant

Reports to: Liza Cagua

 

TechMission is a Christian nonprofit social service organization.

Our values are Jesus, Justice, and Technology.

Our mission is to support Christiain organizations in using technology to transform vulnerable communities.

 

TechMission Corps is an AmeriCorps program of TechMission that provides opportunities in urban ministries throughout greater Boston and Los Angeles in direct service sites.

 

· Volunteer Duties

o Stay at the desk in order to answer any telephone calls and direct calls to the correct person.

o In between phone calls, enter new information into the database.

o If present at 11 am, collect the mail and distribute it to correct staff people.

 

o Attend cross-cultural orientation before start of service.

o Volunteers are welcome to attend staff prayers weekday mornings from 9:30-10 am.

o Supervisor check-in will be scheduled bi-weekly.

· Skills required

o familiarity with computers

o strong telephone skills

o excited by the mission of TechMission!

· Time frame:

o Volunteer could be in the office between 10 am and 6 pm M-F.

o We ask that volunteer have a regular shift that they commit to over a semester/ three-month period. At the end of that time the volunteer has met his/her commitment, although she may sign on for another three months.

· Evaluation

o Volunteers will be evaluated at the mid-point of their term of service.

o At this point we will also ask the volunteer to fill out an evaluation of their experience.

Computer Center Instructor

Reports to:

 

Short description of ministry

 

· Volunteer duties

o Responsible for all aspects of teaching and running a class including preparing most of the lessons.

o Responsible for setting schedule of which assistants and other instructors will attend and teach

o If you must miss a class, arrange for another instructor or assistant to cover.

o Foster community among assistants and with students

o Call students who have missed classes at mid-semester to see if they will stay in class

o Attend PREP Computer Ministry Meetings

§ Attend training once each semester

§ Attend student orientation and graduation to get to know students better

· Skills Required

o Instructor must be comfortable enough with the subject of the class to teach with ease.

· Time frame

o Arrive at class at least 15-30 minutes before start each week

§ We ask that instructors don’t miss more than a maximum two classes for the sake of consistency and in order to foster community.

o Classes held at various times; see schedule.

· Evaluation

o Volunteers will be evaluated at the mid-point of their term of service.

o At this point we will also ask the volunteer to fill out an evaluation of their experience.

After-school Assistant

Reports to:

 

Short description of ministry

 

· Volunteer duties

o Watch over students as they are checking in.

o Help students with homework from 3 to 4 pm.

o Assist students in computer class from 4:15 to 5 pm.

§ Help show students where to point the mouse when they get stuck.

§ Help answer student’s questions as they are working through the class material and projects.

§ Develop relationships with students and other volunteers to help form community.

o Monitor children during free time and check out from 5 to 6 pm.

§ Keep an eye on all children.

§ Foster relationships with children.

· Skills required

o Enjoy working with children.

o Must be over age 18.

o Must pass a CORI background check.

· Time Frame

o After-school program runs from 2:30 to 6 M-F.
