Camp Tall Turf

Organization Description:

Camp Tall Turf began in 1968 with the vision to create a safe and fun place to overcome tensions in the midst of the growing pains of the civil rights movement. Today Tall Turf leans on this original vision as it widens its focus; CTT is impacting lives through innovative programming yer round. We are raising leaders & building a culture of understanding and respect. During the summer Tall Turf runs 5 sessions of Youth Camp for youth ages 8-13 and 1 session of Adventure Camp for youth ages 14-17 at our camp facility in Walkerville, MI. Additionally we hire 14 Leaders In Training (LIT) to participate in an intensive leadership program. During the school year Tall Turf runs programs on Saturday mornings and Sunday evenings as follow up to the camp experience. These programs occur at our year round office in Grand Rapids. We also provide mentors for each of the program participants. The LIT program runs on a modified scale during the school year with 10 teens being hired to serve as leaders in our different programs and continue the training that began during the summer.
