Organization Description: 

Casa Chirilagua is a group of people "learning together to love their neighbors as themselves," located in a Latino neighborhood in Alexandria, Virginia. We are a Christian faith-based not-for-profit outreach that seeks to develop relationships with families to see the Chirilagua neighborhood transformed by Christ.

Organizational Statement of Faith: 

We believe in historic Christianity as revealed in the Scriptures and summarized in the Apostolic, Nicene and Athanasian Creeds and are committed to the 5 R?s listed as Casa Chirilagua's core values.


1) RELIANT - We believe in supernatural intervention and rely on God's provision. We are ultimately in the hands of the Almighty Creator.
? We are responsible first and foremost to God. He reveals himself to us and works in miraculous ways. We are not bound by the limitations of this world. Our Almighty Father can step in and do the miraculous, especially when we least expect it.
? Ephesians 3:20-21 "Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen."

2) ROOTED - We are locally rooted and seek out the voice of the neighborhood. We listen to an advisory committee of neighbors. We are rooted in God?s teaching and listen to the voice of the Holy Spirit.
? Listen with humility to the voice of the community, recognizing that despite our experience and education, we have much to learn from the oppressed and impoverished.
? Listen intently to the wisdom of people who have gone before.
? Listen to the guidance of the Holy Spirit.
? Proverbs 12:15 "The way of a fool seems right to him, but a wise man listens to advice."
? Psalm 1:1-3 ?Blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked or stand in the way of sinners or sit in the seat of mockers. But his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law he meditates day and night. He is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither. Whatever he does prospers.?

3) RELATIONAL - We serve a relational and personal God who uses relationships, not programs, to transform people. Our goal is not merely a successful program, but to build relationships that transform lives and bring glory to God.
? Relationship with God - John 10:14-15 "I am the good shepherd; I know my sheep and my sheep know me? just as the Father knows me and I know the Father?and I lay down my life for the sheep."
? Relationship to Others - Romans 13:8 "Let no debt remain outstanding, except the continuing debt to love one another, for he who loves his fellowman has fulfilled the law."


4) RECONCILIATORY - We serve a God who pursues his people and reconciles them to himself. We believe in the power of the gospel to bring economic, denominational, ethnic, linguistic, and racial reconciliation among his people.
? Reconciliation to God - 2 Corinthians 5:19-20 "...God was reconciling the world to himself in Christ, not counting men's sins against them. And he has committed to us the message of reconciliation. We are therefore Christ's ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us. We implore you on Christ's behalf: Be reconciled to God."
? Reconciliation to Others - 1 John 4:11-12 "Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. No one has ever seen God; but if we love one another, God lives in us and his love is made complete in us."


5) REGENERATIONAL - We are working towards regeneration of individuals and of our neighborhood. We recognize the strengths and the capacity of this community, and we are committed to building upon what is already here to create a better neighborhood.
? Spiritual regeneration - 2 Corinthians 5:17 "Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!"
? Community regeneration - Isaiah 58:12 "Your people will rebuild the ancient ruins and will raise up the age-old foundations; you will be called Repairer of Broken Walls, Restorer of Streets with Dwellings."
