Since graduating from [college] in [year], I have taken a position as [Online Publications Editor/Volunteering Coordinator] for TechMission, a Christian nonprofit based in Boston, MA (www.urbanministry.org/about-techmission-inc). For the past few months, we have been trying to raise awareness in the Christian community of our ChristianVolunteering.org website. It is a free volunteering matching site, which works much like Monster.com or VolunteerMatch, except it is specifically designed to connect Christians with opportunities for volunteering, short-term missions, and urban service.

There are four things you could do for us, if you choose:

1)      Put up the search form for ChristianVolunteering.org on the [college] website.

The search form, available at http://www.christianvolunteering.org/searchform.jsp, allows you to search our full database of volunteer & short-term missions opportunities.  We currently have 2000 opportunities available, which can be searched by service area & postal code.

2)      Link to our Encyclopedia of Volunteering, Volunteer Management & Short-Term Missions as a Career Development resource.

We have compiled an extensive set of resources on being a good volunteer (much of which would apply to being a good employee also), spiritual gifts, personality, vocation, and calling, and short-term missions. If you think any of this material would be beneficial to Covenant students, you could make a link to www.urbanministry.org/wiki/encyclopedia-volunteer-management-volunteering-and-short-term-missions from your Career Development Resources page.

3)      As part of career counseling, recommend that students check out ChristianVolunteering.org to look for volunteer opportunities in their community.

4)      Link to UrbanMinistry.org from your website as a resource on community development.

We are a partner with the Christian Community Development Association, and are making an increasingly large amount of their conference materials (lectures & videos) freely available at www.urbanministry.org/ccda.

We also have an extensive Encyclopedia of Urban Ministry (www.urbanministry.org/wiki/), which is a freely-editable resource guide which can spark people’s imagination about pursuing community development as a long-term calling.
