Sankalpa
We are part of the Sankalpa Trust Group, which is devoted to sustainable rural development, based on participatory practices and the application of appropriate technologies. We are currently implementing two very interesting rural development projects in West Bengal. The first is a Rs 1.4 million grant from the Department of Science & Technology, Government of India, to build a "Vertical Shaft Brick Kiln" (with Chinese Technology). It is intended to be a "model" for demonstrating energy conservation and an eco-friendly way to build bricks with as much as 40% saving in energy consumption and reduction in pollution. It is part of the carbon trading mechanism with a program with the World Bank. The second project is a grant from USAID ? for US$ 95,000 - under the 'Methane-to-Market Partnership Initiative' for building a "Plug Flow Biogas Digester" in collaboration with IISc Bangalore, using agricultural waste as input.
