Atlanta Union Mission
History
Atlanta Union Mission was established in 1938 as a refuge for homeless and hungry individuals displaced by the Great Depression. Over the years, the Mission has grown from a single shelter in downtown Atlanta to six facilities, which provide emergency food and shelter, residential recovery programs and transitional housing.
Emergency Services
Atlanta Union Mission provides emergency shelter to as many as 354 men, women and children at two separate campuses. Guests of the shelters are provided hot showers, clean clothes, nutritious food and a safe place to sleep.
Recovery
Programs
Atlanta Union Mission provides residential recovery and transitional housing programs to as many as 716 men, women and women with children. The residential recovery program offers a six to 12-month Christian curriculum with individual and group counseling, life skills training, work therapy and spiritual guidance. The 18-month transitional housing program continues the healing process. Clients live in a supportive, drug-free environment while working or pursuing further education as they transition to independent living.
Thrift Ministry
Atlanta Union Mission's Thrift Ministry collects donated goods to sell in the Mission's thrift stores at a low cost to the community. All of the sale proceeds go directly into the Mission's programs. The thrift ministry also provides job training to men in recovery at the Mission's North Georgia campus, and it gives merchandise to needy families in the community. Thrift store locations:
