L'Arche Nehalem
L'Arche Nehalem is a member of an international federation of communities of faith where people with and without developmental disabilities share life together. We have two homes in Portland, Oregon. Each home has four adults with developmental disabilities and three or four assistants who live together in a family-like setting. There are also many other people with developmental disabilities, family members, volunteers and friends who share in our community life and join in our activities and celebrations. We are a sign to the world of the unique value of every person and our need for one another.
The mission of L'Arche Nehalem is to create home and build community with people who have developmental disabilities.
L'Arche Nehalem is a community of faith composed of people of different faith traditions, spiritual paths, and intellectual abilities. We strive to live the teachings of Jesus, with a special emphasis on the Beatitudes. We are committed to living from the deeply spiritual dimension of life.
Each member is called to be rooted and deepen in his or her chosen faith tradition or spiritual path, and to recognize, respect and nurture the underlying unity of all faith traditions, especially those practiced by our members. The richest expressions of this underlying unity are in the authentic and mutual relationships built through the joys and challenges of sharing daily life together.
