Colorado Vincentian Volunteers
In addition to establishing fulltime volunteer work-placement opportunities, the compontent of intentional community living supports the volunteers' personal, spiritual, professional and emotional development. This includes orientation sessions, ongoing training and evaluation, weekly reflection and discussion, 3 weekend retreats, a border immersion and a professional staff that help facilitate the volunteers' integration of their community service with the poor and issues of social justice. This process of reflection and discussion in light of community involvement leads the volunteers to a greater understanding of social justice and systemic change.
Compelled by a call to service and justice? CVV volunteers (aged 22-30) respond to that call by participating in a process of companionship with the poor in the spirit of St. Vincent de Paul. As a unique experience in the Catholic tradition, you (the volunteer) fulfill this goal by working in areas of direct service and advocacy, living a life of simplicity in community supported by prayer, and participating in a reflection process that addresses the relationship between charity and justice. It is
through these components that you not only serve the poor and marginalized, but also discover the many ways the poor reveal the message of the Gospel. Through this year you become the served and together you are "Companions on the Journey."
Serving as a CVVolunteer will help you discover the presence of Christ in the person of the poor. Volunteers gather weekly for
prayer, worship, discussion and the exchange of personal observations and experiences. Such reflection will provide you with a deeper and clearer understanding of the "preferential option for the poor," and Catholic Social Teaching. The spiritual life of the community will also help clarify the connection between your commitment to the poor and your spiritual journey. CVV encourages applications from people of all races and ethnic origins. Although rooted in the Roman Catholic tradition, CVV welcomes applicants from other Christian denominations.
