San Francisco Tenants Union

Organization Description:

The SFTU is a non-profit, membership-supported organization. We are the city’s oldest and largest tenant organization and our membership is as diverse as the tenant population of San Francisco. It provides tenants rights counseling for members and non-members at a daily drop-in clinic. The TU also provides assistance for tenants who want to organize their neighborhoods or buildings. Other of our work has involved successful legislative advocacy including 1994's Proposition I which expanded San Francisco’s rent control law and 1998’s Proposition G which drastically limited Owner Move-In evictions. The SFTU is 100% membership supported, thereby enabling our advocacy to be uncompromising and immune to pressures from government or other funders.
