Agape in Action
Dr. James Street and his wife Kathleen founded Agape in Action shortly after the end of the Guatemalan civil war - as poverty, malnutrition, and medical difficulties ravaged the country. In our first years, our focus was on surgeries primarily for women and children. Through the years we?ve diversified and we now have a full time physician living and working in Santa Cruz del Quiche?: Dr. Heidi Bell. Dr. Bell lives there with her husband Matt and their newborn son, Isaac.
Furthermore, our groups of volunteers now include American medical personnel and health educators, as well as dental and hearing professionals, pastors, engineers, cooks, translators, and construction volunteers. Short-term mission teams generally spend a week at a time in the region, at their own expense, to volunteer their services and fellowship.
Agape in Action seeks to bring hope to the poor and disadvantaged in the Guatemalan Highlands by providing physical, medical and spiritual aid so that each person may experience the love of God and Christ.
Agape in Action's medical services are available to all in need, regardless of faith or any other affiliation. Similarly, the program, while a Christian missionary endeavor rooted in Judeo-Christian principles, accepts volunteers of all faiths.
