Al Wooten Jr. Heritage Center
The Wooten Center is a youth center founded by Myrtle Faye Rumph in honor of her son, killed in a drive-by shooting in 1989. Founded a year later, the center provides afterschool, summer, gang prevention, SAT-prep and other college readiness activities for more than 500 youth in grades 3-12 at our center and other community sites. We are a community-based organization with a Christian founder who considered the work as urban missions (she passed away in Jan 2015 at age 83). Our executive director, Naomi McSwain, has a master's degree in intercultural studies and children at risk from Fuller Theological Seminary. Naomi has over 20 years nonprofit management experience and also considers the work as urban missions.
