Big Brothers Big Sisters of Erie County
Big Brothers Big Sisters is the largest provider of one-to-one youth mentoring services in the United States. In Erie County, under the leadership of the founder and current CEO, Robert F. Moss, we have been matching caring adults with local children since 1971 and have touched the lives of over 4,500 youth. These quality relationships, built on friendship, fun and trust, are proven to be a significant positive influence in the life of the child, as well as the volunteer mentor.
Studies conducted by the national research firm Public/Private Ventures have shown that when compared to other youth, children matched with "Bigs" are: 46% less likely to start using drugs, 27% less likely to start drinking, 52% less likely to skip a day of school, 37% less likely to skip a class,33% less likely to hit someone, more trusting of their parents or guardians.
The mission of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Erie County is to help children reach their potential through professionally supported mentoring relationships.
