Brothers and Sisters United for Christ (BSUC)

It was developed in August 2004 through a God sent vision implanted in its founder and executive director, Everett Gutierrez. He began to work within his church, with the goal of drawing in other Christians to participate in some of the activities he has been involved in throughout his community. He began to see that through networking with other churches and Christians that there was a need for unity in the community. He also began to take notice to the lack of funding and resources available to churches seeking to put together programs and events within their congregations to reach out and provide services to the community.

A group of young adults began its work, spearheading a campaign to unite Christian churches in an effort to generate a positive impact in the community. BSUC took on the mission on uniting Christian churches by hosting a series of events, including youth rallies, unity services, and benefit concerts that would lead up to its ultimate goal of hosting its first ?Family Christian Parade? in Chicago on August 6, 2005. Following the Christian parade was a Katrina Benefit concert that raised money and supplies for victims of Hurricane Katrina in October 2005. This was the beginning of fruitful dialogue and joint activities that brought together young adults, pastors, and leaders from various churches and Christian denominations that spurred off the campaign to invest in the community through unity.

Most of the churches that participated have congregations with memberships of 100 to 200 members. The number of young adults per church is relatively small and- because of church size-college, young adult ministry, and youth empowerment activities are relatively minimal, if not nonexistent; however, these young Christian adults are very passionate and dedicated to promoting positive programs and providing positive outreach initiatives that extend to the local communities. BSUC has been the vehicle for these young adults to come together and express their gifts and talents. The organization has attracted teens that are just as committed and excited to work on the mission of the organization.



Since its inception, BSUC has provided social service referrals to individuals and families who come to our office with a variety of needs. Some of the needs include: joint partnerships to reach out to other churches, hunger relief causes, financial assistance with bills, youth development programs, individuals seeking a church to attend, and other items.
