BUWEDDA -Uganda

Organization Description:

Butembe Women with Disabilities Development Association (BUWEDDA) is a grass roots, non-governmental community based organization that is focused on the empowerment of rural women and girls with disabilities, children and youth with disabilities in Eastern Uganda. It was established in 1999 after realizing that rural women with disabilities were particularly vulnerable to economic and sexual exploitation which made them more vulnerable to HIV/AIDS and other Health related issues. The women with disabilities are victims of exploitation, abuse, harassment coupled with circumstances which limits expression and realization of their full potential as human beings. Our policy is to create equal opportunities for all women, girls, children and youth regardless of their disability status and minimize the impact of disability on children, youth and women in the community
