For the Children's Sake Foundation

Organization Description:

Orphaned, vulnerable, disadvantaged and marginalized children in many parts of sub-Saharan Africa are unable to access government schools due to family poverty, despite free education laws. Their families are negatively impacted by disease (HIV/AIDS, Malaria, etc.), are unemployed and lack education. Parent value education and disadvantaged children in the rural areas attend whatever school is available within walking distance, that their parents can afford. They often come hungry, ill clothed, and eager to learn.

The schools with which we work are typically established by churches or Christian entrepreneurs, and serve our target children at very low tuition rates. The teachers employed in such schools typically lack the tools needed to best serve the children, and are very excited to receive training to help them in their teaching endeavors.

Frequently, students do not have the texts they are studying, and teachers have never seen the national standards on which the students will finally be examined. They are without basic curriculum, teaching materials, receive low wages and are inconsistently paid. Despite these challenging circumstances, we consistently meet inspiring men and women who have a heart for children and sacrifice much to teach them.

Since the Foundation began its work in 2006, we have been effective in training teachers from the slums of Nairobi, Kenya as well as rural and urban Kampala, Uganda. Teachers attend 3 local training conferences each year and are observed in their classrooms. Follow-Up visits with FTCSF trained teachers indicate that they continue to implement what they have learned about effective teaching/learning strategies, biblical worldview integration, and consequence-based classroom discipline long after training sessions are completed.

Mission Statement:

For the Children's Sake Foundation exists to serve orphaned, vulnerable and disadvantaged and marginalized children attending poor Christian schools in sub-Saharan Africa through means of our teacher training program.

We train African Christian teachers already working with these children to demonstrate the love of God through the use of effective teaching techniques, Godly classroom discipline, and Christian worldview integration with academics.

In addition to teacher training, the Foundation works with Christian school directors on important aspects of administration and teacher relations, and occasionally provides assistance to Christian schools serving disadvantaged populations with Seed Grants, with Nutrition Grants, with clothing, and with curricular materials.

Organizational Statement of Faith:

We believe in God, the Father Almighty,
the Maker of heaven and earth,
and in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord:

Who was conceived by the Holy Ghost,
born of the virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, dead, and buried;

He descended into hell.

The third day He arose again from the dead;

He ascended into heaven,
and sits on the right hand of God the Father Almighty;
from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead.

We believe in the Holy Ghost;
the holy catholic church;
the communion of saints;
the forgiveness of sins;
the resurrection of the body;
and the life everlasting.
