Christian Help, Inc.
Christian Help, Inc. (CHI) was founded in 1975 to assist residents of north central West Virginia with emergency needs. The operating principles of the organization are simple--to serve the less fortunate freely with what resources it has to give and do so in a Christ-like manner. The organization is located in a five-story building in downtown Morgantown and has a total of five programs--The Free Clothing Store, Emergency Financial Assistance, Furniture Exchange, The Career Closets, and a food pantry. Many of the services provided by the organization are unique to Morgantown with all services being free to the public.
Beyond the five programs, Christian help has two annual events in place to benefit the community. In August, CHI transforms the Free Clothing Store into a children's store for our annual Back-to-School Kid's Day. In 2010, over 600 children were served. In December, Christian Help hosts the annual Holiday Toy Give-Away at the Morgantown Armory, which provides a wonderful Christmas to Monongalia County children. In 2009, 881 children benefited from the event. This year CHI expects to help provide a blessed Christmas to over 1,000 children.
Christian Help provides an invaluable service to all residents of Monongalia and surrounding counties, both those who have a need and those who would like to give out of their excess. We provide the opportunity for all to support the organization by giving donations of goods such as clothing, household items, food, financial donations, and/or giving contributions of time through volunteer service. Clients and donors appreciate the fact that everything is free, and our clients rely on the agency to provide financial assistance, food, household items, appliances, electronics, and clothing that they need. It is the community working together that makes Morgantown such a great place to live.
Whether it is a financial contribution, a contribution of time through volunteer service, or a donation of goods such as food, clothing, or household items, each person makes an impact on Christian Help and the services provided. Our organization provides the opportunity for others to give back by utilizing their treasures, times, or talents to benefit others.
The organization is grateful and encouraged by the continuous acts of generosity from its supporters. Christian Help is blessed with the opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of those around us. Through our five programs we are helping to meet the needs of families and children who really need our help.
To respond to situations of emergency and need with immediacy and simplicity, respecting the dignity of all persons in the spirit of Jesus Christ
