ClassWish

Organization Description:

ClassWish is a nonprofit organization that empowers parents, educators, and local communities to make a positive change in their children's lives by providing them with the supplies they need to learn, grow and excel

ClassWish makes it simple:

Teachers, administrators and officers of teacher-parent organizations create a Wish List of the supplies they need for their students.
They easily spread the word to parents and others in the community with ClassWish tools, including emails and printable flyers.
Supporters see exactly how they can help, and get a receipt for their tax-deductible contributions.*
Educators can request the items contributors suggested or more urgently needed supplies from ClassWish.
ClassWish reviews all educator requests, purchases the supplies, and has them shipped to the school.
ClassWish.org displays all items it sends to schools.
ClassWish also helps strengthen the connections between teachers, parents and the broader school community.

Mission Statement:

Volunteers with ClassWish.org Are Helping to
Connect Religious Congregations with Schools to Improve Education for Children

Many religious congregations have become very active in encouraging support of schools, and we are recruiting volunteers to collaborate on a bold nonprofit initiative to encourage, support and promote that trend. We seek passionate and motivated volunteers to work from our office in New York City or to work online from anywhere in the country.

Here is the problem we are tackling: K-12 schools in this country do not have enough resources to let children explore their potential and excel. Books, computers, art supplies, musical instruments, science equipment, sports equipment?and even paper for computers and printers?are all in desperately short supply. Teachers are spending their own money on supplies, and kids are peddling cookie dough and wrapping paper. The situation is unfair, disruptive, grossly inefficient, and entirely inadequate. We?re going to change it.

ClassWish.org, an exciting new nonprofit, provides a way to help 125,000 schools serving 56 million kids inform, inspire and engage supporters. In short, teachers create Wish Lists of the resources they need. People in the community can see exactly what is needed and how their tax-deductible contributions can help.

Religious congregations (and also businesses and civic organizations) can create profiles in our Group section to display and earn recognition for their work, encourage others to do the same, and engage their community in supporting schools.

About Us: The education and business leaders people behind this campaign include such prominent education and business leaders as Laurie Coots, CMO, TBWA; Scott Cutler, EVP, New York Stock Exchange; Esther Dyson, investor and philanthropist; Mark Linaugh, Chief Talent Officer, WPP; Nancy Pelz-Paget, Director, Education and Society Program, Aspen Institute; Delia Pompa, VP of Education, National Council of La Raza; Sharon Robinson, CEO, American Association of Colleges of Teacher Education. In addition, Forbes Magazine liked our approach so much that they donated a full page to help raise awareness among businesses.

This remarkable group has been brought together by the belief that all children should have access to a quality education, and that no child should be denied the chance to realize his/her God-given potential. Perhaps the same belief will encourage you to join us as a volunteer?

The work: We are thrilled that so many churches, fellowships, and faith-based organizations across the nation are working hard to promote access to a quality education for children. With your help, more religious congregations can discover how the ClassWish.org platform can help them more effectively fulfill that mission.

There is a tremendous number of religious congregations in the United States, and we need many volunteers to help us reach them. You might focus on ones in the city where you live, or ones of your own faith, or others you care about. We would be glad to find the opportunity you will be most passionate about.

The result of your efforts? Teachers and schools will get the support they need. Parents and communities will be engaged in supporting schools and funding the things they care about. And all of us will be united in helping our children perform at their best and in knowing that they are valued and supported by their communities.

If you want a great experience doing something you will always be proud of, please email us at volunteers [at] ClassWish.org.
