Compeer of Lebanon County

Organization Description:

Our first goal is to match individuals who are isolated and lonely, due to a mental illness, to supportive and caring volunteers in a one-to-one friendship. We are a non-profit organization funded mainly by United Way of Lebanon County and MHMR of Lebanon County. Compeer is very cost effective in that we save the county of Lebanon thousands of health care dollars and help to avert re-hospitalization for our clients because of the supportive friendships we facilitate.

Our second goal is to erase the stigma associated with mental illness. We strive to educate the public and create awareness concerning mental illness and a better understanding of individuals affected by depression, anxiety or schizophrenia. Mental illness is often described as "the loneliest illness in the world" but with the support of a non-judgmental friend, many of these people can thrive, learn to function better in society and make tremendous strides in their recovery.
