Coptic Orphans
Coptic Orphans was founded in 1988 when Egyptian-American Nermien Riad returned to the Egypt of her early childhood on a tour of duty with the US government. She found a country that, despite a rich heritage and decades of foreign aid, still grappled with widespread poverty and illiteracy. She organized volunteers in Egypt and members of the Coptic Diaspora abroad for the common cause of a better Egypt.
Today, as a professional Coptic development organization, we stand where our founder began in 1988: with feet firmly planted both in native Egypt and in nations of diaspora around the world. We leverage worldwide professional expertise and global resources so that the children of Egypt can break the cycle of poverty for themselves and others.
