Dignity Housing

Organization Description:

At Dignity Housing we believe in providing programs and services that stabilize homeless families, enhance life skills and impart opportunities for independent living. We achieve this goal by providing safe and affordable transitional living, in combination with a wide range of supportive services designed to address the complex and multiple needs of the homeless people we serve. Dignity?s mission and goals closely mirror the Pew Fund?s objective ? to help adults with chronic and serious problems substantially improve their level of independence by expanding high-quality programs that provide an appropriate range of supports.

Dignity Housing serves approximately 80 homeless adults ? primarily single African American women - and 150 homeless children and youth each year. All of Dignity?s residents are referred from emergency shelters and drug and alcohol recovery programs, and are low- and very low-income, as defined by the government. The women of Dignity Housing face a variety of challenges to healthy and independent living. Their lives have often been disrupted by multiple episodes of homelessness. Many have faced life-long struggles with poverty, which often prevented access to adequate levels of education and training.

To address these multiple and complex needs, Dignity Housing provides the following service supports designed to enhance client self-sufficiency:

1. Intake and Assessment
2. Case Management Services
3. Workforce Development Services
4. Housing Placement Services
5. Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services
6. Other Supportive Services
