The Empowerment Project, Inc.
• Our organization is rooted in a grassroots initiative and strives for the realization of social and economic justice in all spheres of life, and believes that changing these conditions begins with us. As an organization we believe we are individually and collectively responsible to make our world a better place.
• We believe creating social change is a conscious, collective decision that takes place on many levels: the individual, socio-cultural, political, and global. Our intentional actions inspire and impact others to create positive change around the world.
• We believe the synthesis of sound clinical theory, practice (action) and reflection make effective interventions that improve the well being of our society. This synthesis is called praxis.
• The arts contribute to the development of creating learning communities, and are an integral part of our organization. "When the arts become central in an organization or community the learning environment improves, and the organizational culture transforms to become more positive, creative and supportive."(President’s Committee on Arts and the Humanities. 2005)
• Our organization believes the arts (performing, visual, expressive) and education are to be incorporated into daily life, and are powerful catalysts for empowerment and change.
• We acknowledge our strivings and are patient with ourselves and our colleagues. We further acknowledge to ask for and to receive help. We model this behavior, as this is what we ask of our clients.
• Active dialogue and reflection is integral to forming relationships of mutuality and respect. We strive to give voice to community members who live in the margin of our society. We value diversity and through our differences find strength in creating solutions to our common concerns.
• Our non-profit company strives to deliver exemplary customer and community service, with the belief that we can inspire others to do the same. Our work springs from an environment characterized by respect, generosity, creativity, smart work …and fun!
• We believe people are best understood within the context of their environment. Holistic approaches engaging the body, mind and spirit are utilized for healing.
• We utilize a strengths-based perspective. We recognize the inherent strengths and leadership within our organization, staff, clients and community. As an organization, our members are willing to learn from one another, and we recognize the inherent wisdom, creativity, and self determination of our clients.
• While we provide services to individuals and families we are ever mindful that our efforts aim beyond individual people and symptoms. Our efforts identify systemic root causes of problems, and we work to change those systems.
