Family Impact
In sub-Saharan Africa, the religious affiliation of 60% of the people is Christian. That single fact means that the Christian Church has unequalled potential to mitigate the impact of HIV and AIDS.
Churches and Christian organisations are responding actively. Christians are already in the forefront of HIV and AIDS programmes. A hidden army of millions of church volunteers is tackling Africa‚?s AIDS crisis head on. Faith Untapped, a report from Tearfund produced in August 2006, estimates the value of the churches‚? care for orphans, the sick and the elderly at over 2.5 billion pounds annually. However it is clear that more can be done. Many more churches and Christians need to be motivated and equipped to become involved in active HIV and AIDS ministry. The Christian response is not well coordinated. Some church attitudes have played a part in fuelling stigma and discrimination. And sadly, surveys show little significant difference in behaviour and HIV prevalence between those who call themselves Christians and those who do not. The HIV and AIDS pandemic is calling all Christians to a life of holiness, integrity, love, service and sacrifice. It is a call to the Church to be Church ‚? to live in practice all it professes to believe and be.
Family Impact is a Christian Faith-based organisation which supports Christians and churches in their response to HIV and AIDS by celebrating the beauty of God‚?s plan for family life and relationships and promoting its transforming power. It looks forward to the day then Christians throughout Africa say a glad ‚?Yes‚? to God‚?s pattern for family life. Family Impact aims to research, pioneer and implement new initiatives in HIV and family work. Family Impact equips all family members with Life skills for positive moral living though decisions made out of sound, personal conviction. Life skills empower people against vulnerability to risky lifestyles.
