Floyd County Fair Society
The first Floyd County Fair was held October 5&6, 1859 and we have grown exponentially through the years. Our 2014 edition posted record numbers in both exhibitors and attendees with 1268 non-livestock exhibits, 1405 livestock exhibits, and a 5 day attendance of over 12,000.The Floyd County Fair is an annual event with the primary purpose of the Youth Junior Achievement Show. These youth exhibitors are made up of 4H and FFA members. The most common benefit that most people mention about livestock exhibition is the responsibility a young person gains from raising and showing an animal. Responsibility was identified as being developed through the attention, time and care that animal project requires. `
Character development was a close second to social development as the most important benefit of competitive livestock exhibition. Confidence was instilled in the exhibitors because they see that they can take care of an animal. Sportsmanship developed though livestock showing because it is a competitive event. Exposure to loss at an early age helps prepare youth for similar situations that will happen in life. The participants perceived these meanings as a builder of character, which is an essential life skill.
The Floyd County Fair Society Mission is to annually holding a fair in Floyd County, Iowa to further interests in agriculture and to encourage the improvement and education of agricultural products, livestock, and articles of domestic industry, implements, and other mechanical devices in Floyd County, Iowa. Our vision is to educate, inspire, and motivate our area youth to grow, succeed and lead the nation.
