Free Arts Minnesota
Free Arts Minnesota serves over 4000 children ages 3 to 18 each year by providing them with arts education opportunities to heal their lives through artistic expression. We partner with 30 organizations that serve children who have been neglected, abused, and/or at risk.
We offer individual volunteer opportunities which place volunteers at one of our 30 partnering organizations across the metropolitan area. Volunteers serve as mentors on a mentor team with 3 to 5 other volunteers. The weekly Mentorship Program is offered for 32 weeks from September through January. For those interested in starting mid-year, the commitment runs through May. Summer term is also available. Volunteers provide one hour per week of creative arts activities to children. Volunteers can select their preferred age group, time, and location for their mentorship experience. Our volunteers develop and lead projects for children that incorporate drawing, painting, dance, drama, sculpture, photography, and other art mediums. The program objectives are to offer children opportunities to develop healthy relationships with adults, increase their sense of self-worth and help them learn new ways to communicate through participation in the arts. Mentors must make a one year commitment. Training and on-going support of the mentor experience is provided by Free Arts Minnesota.
Free Arts Minnesota is a nonprofit organization dedicated to bringing the healing powers of artistic expression into the lives of abused, neglected and at-risk children and their families.
