Girls Hope of Pittsburgh Inc

Organization Description:

Girls Hope is a nonprofit, nondenominational organization that helps girls who are hurt and at-risk academically, yet capable of academic achievement, to realize their self worth and leadership potential. We do this by providing value-centered, family-like homes and a quality education through college.

We believe that a long-term nurturing home environment and an excellent education are the primary tools required to break the cycle of poverty and/or neglect.

Girls Hope provides a well-balanced, nurturing home and quality education through college for academically capable girls. We serve children between the ages of 10-18 who are at risk due to poverty, neglect or harmful neighborhood conditions.

We give girls a foundation for success by addressing their basic needs and providing enriching opportunities that build confidence and self-esteem. Our focus on academic achievement through college creates a strong foundation that builds a future of hope and opportunity for our girls. Our full-time house parents and other staff serve as role models by providing guidance, discipline and love, instilling values, and encouraging respect and compassion.

Founded in 1990, we were the first Girls Hope established in the U.S. and a model for developing other Girls Hope programs across the nation. We provide two stable, family-like homes, each accommodating eight full-time residents, while also serving as a home base for several Girls Hope college students
