Habitat for Humanity
We are the only agency in La Plata County that provides affordable homeownership opportunities to our family residents earning between 30% and 60% of the area median income. an example of a qualified participant in our program may be a family of four with a total yearly income of $18,700 OR they may be a single mother with two children who is working full-time, making $17.50 per hour. These families do not qualify for conventional mortgages and are typically directed towards affordable rental situations. We believe that homeownership is superior to renting, is a vital step in breaking the cycle of poverty and contributes to pride in families and communities.
As an ecumenical Christian organization, Habitat for Humanity of La Plata County is dedicated to addressing affordable housing in our community. We work in partnership with businesses, civic organizations, the faith community, schools, government entities and individuals like you!
Through the use of volunteers and the "sweat equity" of our partner families, we build simple, decent homes with 0% interest mortgages. Since we are also the lender for the homeowner-to-be, our need is to continue our capacity to build homes by replenishing our cash supply!
Since our establishment in 1994, we've built 24 homes which have directly impacted over 60 women, men and children. We are currently building two duplexes in Fox Farm Village, Bayfield.
If you are interested in finding out how you can make a difference - please visit our volunteer page. Currently there is an immediate need for volunteers to help in the Habitat Home Supply store and with the Cans for Habitat recycling program. We'd love to meet you and help you get involved in meaningful work for our community!
Habitat for Humanity of La Plata County puts faith into action by seeking to eliminate poverty housing and promote affordable homeownership by constructing simple decent houses for low income residents through the cooperative efforts of volunteers, partner families, donors, and staff.
