Habitat for Humanity of Anderson County

Organization Description:

Habitat for Humanity of Anderson County does not give houses away. We offer helping hand to deserving, low-income families through our homeownership program. We provide zero-interest mortgages, homeownership training, and support to ensure Habitat homeowners succeed in homeownership. Future homeowners must put in at least 400 hours of "sweat equity" labor by helping to build their own home and working on other Habitat projects. A $1,200 down payment is required, which can be paid in installments before construction begins. After construction is completed, houses are sold to partnering homeowners, with zero-interest mortgages spread out over 20 - 30 years in order for the payments, including taxes and insurance, to remain affordable. Their monthly payments are used to build additional Habitat houses in Anderson County.
