Habitat for Humanity Fox Valley Restore

Organization Description:

History Founded in 1976 by Millard and Linda Fuller, Habitat for Humanity International is a nonprofit, ecumenical Christian housing ministry dedicated to eliminating substandard housing and homelessness worldwide and to making adequate, affordable shelter a matter of conscience and action. Habitat invites people from all faiths and walks of life to work together in partnership, building houses with families in need.

Founded in 1989, Fox Valley Habitat was chartered in 1990 as an autonomous affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International. The local movement is an independent, non-profit organization responsible for its fund-raising, publicity and volunteer recruitment. From a dream in the hearts of a dozen people concerned about poverty housing in the Fox Valley, it has grown to over 1,000 individuals and organizations. Since its inception Fox Valley Habitat has built 51 homes for our partnering families.

Mission Statement:

We are a Habitat for Humanity non-profit affiliate dedicated to the Fox Valley community. We work in partnership with God and people of all faiths and races to develop communities for people in need by building and renovating houses to create home ownership opportunities. Our fundamental premise is to help others by providing a hand up; not a handout.

As an affiliate, we are a grass roots organization, independently operated to serve our local area community. While operating under the greater Habitat Covenant, we independently coordinate all aspects of Habitat home building in our area—fundraising; building site selection; partner family selection and support; house construction; and mortgage servicing.

With the gracious support of individual, corporate and other non-profit sponsors/partners we have proudly served the Fox Valley communities for 20 years. We have built 51 homes in Aurora, North Aurora and Montgomery. We are continually exploring new ways to generate the necessary revenue and sponsorship to enable us to create affordable housing for those in need.

Organizational Statement of Faith:

Family Selection
Whether in the U.S. or overseas, families in need apply to local Habitat affiliates. The affiliate's family selection committee considers applicants' level of need, their willingness to become partners in the Habitat program and their ability to repay the no-interest loan. Every affiliate follows a nondiscriminatory policy of family selection. Neither race nor religion is a factor in choosing Habitat homeowner families.
