Habitat for Humanity of Oshkosh
Through tax-deductible donations of money and material, by utilizing volunteer labor and with the help of future homeowners, Habitat builds simple, decent, and affordable homes. Houses are sold to partner families at no profit and financed with no-interest mortgages. Homeowners invest their own labor, called "sweat equity," into building their home and the homes of other Habitat families. This makes monthly payments affordable. The no-interest mortgages are paid back into a revolving "fund for humanity" account which is used to build more homes in Winnebago County for eligible homeowners.
Habitat is an ecumenical Christian housing ministry that seeks to put belief into action by working in partnership with God's people to create a decent habitat in which to live and work. Habitat's mission is to eliminate substandard housing while providing simple, decent housing to qualified low-income families. In addition to building homes, Habitat builds a spirit of community and cooperation among the volunteers, supporters and beneficiaries of the organization. Habitat partners with other community development organizations to rebuild neighborhoods.
