Higher Ground After School Program

We are a free after school program serving K - 8th student providing after school tutoring and recreational activities.

Higher Ground offer its services to the community free of charge. The program now maintains an average daily attendance of 50 to 55 students and a total enrollment of 70 students.

We are located in the southwestern part of the Tucson metropolitan area, amidst the suburban communities of Drexel Heights and Valencia West, and is adjacent to the Tohono O'odham and Pascua Yaqui Indian Reservations. Higher Ground is currently partnering with neighboring schools such as Pistor Middle School and White Elementary. Higher Ground has also developed community partnerships with the Pima County Board of Supervisors, Pima County One-Stop, Tucson Federal Credit Union (TFCU), Community Renewal Counseling Service, Mentor Kids USA, Sober Project, Instrumental Music Center, and Chicago Music Store. KOLD News 13 has featured Higher Ground, showcasing the program’s positive impact in the Community.

Programming includes age appropriate activities in a variety of areas that address the academic, physical, social, and emotional needs of students. Higher Ground supports the schools by extending the hours that students can learn in a safe and stimulating environment where they can have a one to one personal attention. Parents are afforded the peace of mind that their children are being cared for in safe after school facility that provides positive reinforcement and identity development. Additionally, the program gives community members an opportunity to volunteer and interact with youth.
