Humanity for Orphans, Youth and Widows Initiatives Kenya (HOYWIK)

HOYWIK is a civil support organization that was founded in 1998 and registered in 2000 a legally registered by the government of Kenya and issued with certificate number OP.218051/2008/0300/5336 to promote social development for poverty reduction. The mission and mandate is to accelerate grassroots sustainable development in developing economies and work towards improving living conditions for the poorest of the poor and the underprivileged families such as Aids orphans, Youth and Women by drawing on its combined resources and expertise in collaboration with other Stakeholders.

HOYWK has assumed and enhanced role in development agenda by focusing its activities on poverty reduction. The purpose and mandate of the organization is to work with a wide range of partners to foster a movement to promote and sustain actions at various levels to bring tangible benefits to poor people and for the realization of the millennium development goals (MDGs). Our services are on communal forums. We generate and disseminate related information, knowledge, provide technical support and implement projects. We are recognized as a highly relevant, specialized and efficient provider of key services in support of the interlinked challenges of reducing poverty through promoting integration of developing communities through capacity building, fostering entrepreneurship development and improving access to health care and education. Our initiative has benefited over 3,000 members as direct beneficiaries since inception. The organization has designed implemented and documented projects that strive to improve social and economic conditions and the general well-being of communities especially the vulnerable populations. The organization implements projects in peri-urban slum dwellings and rural Kenya.

HOYWIK vision is sustainable community development and the mission is to lobby for the rights, and specific general needs of the welfare of Orphans, Youth and Widows through advocacy and implementation of sustainable developmental and health programmes in the community. In order to achieve the vision and mission, HOYWIK implements activities that create opportunities for orphans, youth and women in order to increase educational interventions, household income, reduce poverty and enhance food security.

To this end, HOYWIK has:- Established HOYWIK Academy School in the year 2006 as a feeding centre; this was necessitated by research findings on impact of the Free Primary Education that the government was providing. HOYWIK now offers good and quality care for most underprivileged children through education, uniforms, daily feeding program, psycho social support, school stationeries among others. The centre currently hosts over 250 children from school going age ECDE bracket up to class 8. Set up a Social Entrepreneurship Target (SET Fund) Revolving Fund Scheme that facilitates capacity building, micro-finance services and products to women and youth in Kibera slums in order to improve their consumption of basic social and economic services. Provided other community development initiatives that empower the communities and improve living standards of the targeted groups.
