HIS SECRET PLACE - Mission to Missionaries (M2M) will be an international retreat to encourage, empower and refresh missionaries from around the world in order to help them remain in their fields. It will be a time and occasion whereby God‚‚’s servants who may be feeling "burnout" or discouragement can find recovery and strengthening in Christ‚‚’s rest (Matthew 11:28-29). This retreat will take place in September 2009 at Newfoundland‚‚’s International Heritage Site, Gros Morne National Park. Participants will be treated with Newfoundland‚‚’s legendary hospitality and have opportunity to partake in relaxing activities and services. M2M will be open to all missionaries, and trained staff, provided by our partner Barnabas International, will be available to gently encourage reflection and spiritual health.



The need for this ministry to missionaries was evident by the study conducted by the WEA Mission Commission on Missionary Attrition and Retention. Data obtained from the two surveys indicated that an increasing number of missionaries are experiencing high levels of stress and burnout, with the result that many are leaving the fields to which the Lord called them.



The IAM Board members believe that this time and occasion for missionaries will also be significant to those who send and support them. We anticipate that churches and supporters everywhere will be delighted to have an opportunity to celebrate their missionaries and show their appreciation for who they are and the work they pursue.
