International Crisis Aid
ICA is based in St. Louis, Missouri, and has four main programs (Food, Health, Home, and Safe). We have implemented these in several countries including Pakistan, North Korea, Sudan, Indonesia, Cambodia, and we currently have programs in Ethiopia, Haiti and Afghanistan.
• FOOD is our program to fight hunger and severe malnutrition. Since 2000, we have fed millions of people around the world. We are currently distributing food to more than 6,000 severely malnourished people every month.
• HEALTH is our medical program, and it is primarily focused in Angacha, Ethiopia, where we opened a medical clinic in 2008. There, we treat an average of 3,000 people each month. As an effort to prevent illness, we have dug 15 water wells in and around the Angacha region of Ethiopia. We are currently working on raising funds to build a hospital in the same region.
• HOME is our program to care for orphans. We have one orphanage in Ethiopia for up to 60 young girls orphaned by HIV/AIDS. As a result of the January 2010 earthquake in Haiti, we have been rebuilding an orphanage for more than 100 children that was destroyed in Leogane. We also have child sponsorship programs in Ethiopia ($35/month) and Haiti ($40/month). There are around 200 children enrolled in these programs, and almost half of them are still awaiting sponsorship.
• Finally, SAFE is our program for rescue, shelter, and rehabilitation for child victims of sex trafficking. ICA personally rescues girls from sex trafficking and provides a full rehabilitation program. Since 2007, we have established 8 Safe Homes worldwide. We have rescued over 130 girls from Ethiopia, Cambodia, and Haiti. The girls range in age from 4 years to 21 years, and so far we have a 91% success rate. Currently, we are raising funds to build Safe Homes in the U.S. for American children who are victims of sexual exploitation.
These four programs are the main focus of International Crisis Aid, although we do disaster relief and community development as well.
