John Paul II Junior College

Organization Description:

John Paul II Junior College opened in 2013 with the mission of transforming the nation of Belize by liberally educating her youth. It offers an Associate's degree in Liberal Arts with optional concentrations in English or Business. Alongside the College, in the same vibrant, Catholic community of Benque Viejo, Belize, is Mount Carmel High School. Volunteers opened the high school in 1991 and continue to make it possible, though the teachers are mostly Belizean now. The school serves close to 500 students per year. Over 300 volunteers have served at the high school over the years and for many, those were the best years of their lives. The Catholic Mission needs a few more adventurous volunteers to dedicate a year of their lives to the exciting project of teaching at the still-young Junior College. They will receive food, housing, and a stipend. They live in community with the volunteer teachers from the high school and have daily contact with the priests and nuns of the parish.

JPIIJC especially needs teachers of Philosophy, Trivium, Humanities, and Latin for the coming school year. Applicants should: · Have at least a bachelor?s degree in liberal arts, theology, philosophy, history, or English. · Be willing to work in missionary conditions, i.e. eat local foods, live in simple housing without A/C, endure mosquitoes and cockroaches, etc. · Have a zeal for service and a desire to help young people form a deep synthesis of faith and reason. · Be willing to live an exemplary life in and out of the classroom. · Have a flexible personality and ability to adapt to circumstances.
