Kids With A Promise

Organization Description:

Since 1894, Kids With A Promise has provided safe places, challenging experiences and caring people to children from New York City’s most at-risk communities. We challenge young people to dream and equip them to develop the confidence, competence and character to achieve those dreams — preparing them for a world of opportunity they might otherwise never know.

For 110 summers, Kids With A Promise's MONT LAWN CAMP has provided a vacation with a purpose for inner-city children who would not otherwise have the opportunity to escape the hot city streets during the summer months. Each summer nearly 1,000 boys and girls come to the tranquil Pocono Mountains to hike, camp, swim, enjoy crafts, animals, music, and drama. Each activity is designed to provide a child’s physical, social, spiritual, and intellectual needs.

The Kids With A Promise YOUNG SCHOLARS PROGRAM provides an at-risk child access to a year-round program of focused support, mentorship and Christian education. Each Young Scholar receives a scholarship to attend a quality, private Christian school and is connected to a caring adult mentor and as necessary to an academic tutor. The Young Scholars meet together quarterly as a peer group to celebrate their accomplishments and build friendship. The Young Scholars also enjoy a customized experience at Mont Lawn Camp each summer and a winter retreat for the entire family.

The Kids With A Promise LEADERSHIP ACADEMY is a mentoring and leadership development program for youth. The 12 to 16-year old participants are selected because of their character and their desire to be servant leaders as indicated on their applications and recommendations. The Leadership Academy entails group mentoring with a focus on developing the skills needed to be successful in college and the workplace. Upon reaching age 17, participants may apply for paid summer positions at Mont Lawn Camp.

Mission Statement:

To transform the lives of increasing number os children and young people in the City of New York from the cycles of limited opportunity to spiritually grounded, academically accomplished and leadership-ready followers of Jesus.

Organizational Statement of Faith:

We believe the Bible to be the inspired, the only infallible, authoritative Word of God.

We believe that there is one God, eternally existent in three persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

We believe in the deity of our Lord Jesus Christ, in His virgin birth, in His sinless life, in His miracles, in His vicarious and atoning death through His shed blood, in His bodily resurrection, in His ascension to the right hand of the Father, and in His personal return in power and glory.

We believe that for the salvation of the lost and sinful, regeneration by the Holy Spirit is absolutely essential.

We believe in the present ministry of the Holy Spirit by whose indwelling the Christian is enabled to live a godly life.

We believe in the resurrection of both the saved and the lost; they that are saved unto the resurrection of life and they that are lost unto the resurrection of damnation.

We believe in the spiritual unity of believers in our Lord Jesus Christ.

We believe that all believers are called to obey not only the first great commandment, to love God with all our heart, soul, mind and strength, but also the second great commandment of our Lord: "You shall love your neighbor as yourself."
