KYOSIGA COMMUNITY CHRISTIAN ASSOCIATION FOR DEVELOPMENT(KACCAD)

KACCAD Background:
KACCAD is a registered Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) that was established in 1994. Since its inception KACCAD?s goal has been to improve the standard of living of its members through supporting income generating activities, skill development, youth education, health care access and sensitization. KACCAD is especially committed to empowering orphans and vulnerable children (OVC), women, people from child-headed households, women headed households, people living with or affected by HIV/AIDS, and those with disabilities.

The core strength of KACCAD is its excellent understanding of the communities it serves and its practical approach to finding solutions to community problems. This strength is rooted in the fact that the core of KACCAD?s volunteer staff are part of these same communities. Core staff members all live in Wakiso District and are members of the same vulnerable groups KACCAD targets.

The organization depends on the expertise of full time personnel and other technical and part time support. The expertise available as of October 2008 include: HIV/AIDS and health educator from Peace Corps, accounts person, administrator, construction and carpentry experts, marketing person, medical doctor, and an agricultural economist. KACCAD also is supported by the local governments of Wakiso District, partnerships with 25 community based organizations in these districts, international volunteers, organizations and private donors.

Vulnerable communities in Wakiso District are empowered and self-sufficient with their health, education and income generation needs met.

Mission:
To raise the standard of living of underprivileged people in Wakiso District through provision of HIV/AIDS, health and education support, vocational skills development and start up resources for income generation.

Goals:
? By 2012, women, youth and OVCs in Wakiso Sub-County and surrounding communities will have increased access to quality HIV/AIDS counseling and testing and HIV/AIDS related health education and support services.
? By 2012, at least 50 presently out of school OVCs in Wakiso Sub-County and surrounding communities will receive school sponsorship and education support.
? By 2012, low-income earners, HIV/AIDS infected and affected families, teen mothers and people with disabilities living in Wakiso Sub-County will have increased access to skills development opportunities and income generation support.

Our Objectives:
? By 2012, KACCAD will provide HIV/AIDS sensitization to at least 3,500 in-school youth in Wakiso Sub-County and surrounding communities. As a result, involved youth will be better able to avoid HIV infection reducing the prevalence of HIV in our youth population.
? By 2012, KACCAD will provide HIV/AIDS training and support in HIV/AIDS curriculum development to a male and female teacher in participating secondary school in Wakiso Sub-County. As result, secondary schools will be equipped with needed information and skills to start HIV/AIDS prevention programs in their schools.
? By 2012, at least 3,000 women, out-of-school youth and people affected and infected by HIV/AIDS will receive HIV/AIDS prevention and related health sensitization. As result, these vulnerable communities will be better able to avoid HIV infection reducing the prevalence of HIV in our communities.
? By 2012, KACCAD, in collaboration with partner agencies, will facilitate access to HIV counseling and testing for at least 3,500 women, youth, people with disabilities and OVCs in Wakiso Sub-County and surrounding areas. As a result, these people will have increased knowledge of their HIV status and methods of HIV/AIDS transmission and prevention.
? By 2012, 35 low income youth in Wakiso Sub-County will be provided with tailoring training and a sewing machine as part of KACCAD?s existing revolving scheme. As a result, at least 5 youth will start profitable tailoring business.
? By 2012, 30 out-of-school youth will receive training in carpentry from the 25 already trained youth who have received tools and support for work space from KACCAD. As a result, at least 15 new youth will be successfully involved in carpentry for IGA.
? By 2012, KACCAD, in collaboration with individuals and partner agencies, will facilitate access to school sponsorships and education support for at least 50 OVCs in additional to the 48 OVCs already provided for by KACCAD Donors. As a result, 50 more vulnerable youth will go back to school or will have the opportunity to attend school for the first time increasing their potential to acquire profitable employment and life skills.
? By 2012, KACCAD will provide a minimum of 75 piglets to low-income groups in addition to the 58 families (as of January 2007) that have received piglets as part of KACCAD?s rotating scheme. Recipients will also be trained in financial and business management and piggery farming skills. As a result, at least 60 individuals or farming cooperatives will be enabled to maintain pig farming as a profitable income generating activity.
? By 2012, KACCAD will provide a minimum of 700 chickens to cooperatives of low-income people. Groups will be provided with financial and business management and poultry rearing training as way of increasing sustainability of the project. As result, at least 25% of participating groups will be enabled to maintain poultry farming as an income generation activity or as way to support group nutrition.

KACCAD is an all volunteer run and supported organization. Volunteerism is central to sustaining KACCAD as an organization and to all the work we do. KACCAD has had and continues to maintain relationships with volunteers from around the world: , United States,Sweden, Holland, Germany, Ireland , United Kingdom Austria, Australia,Newsland,Switzland,Spain,and other parts of the world. Volunteers have worked on projects including: supporting education in local schools, tutoring, literacy projects, library set up for local schools, mobilization of funds for KACCAD programs, web design, community HIV/AIDS and health sensitization, HIV/AIDS counseling and testing support, home visits to people living with HIV/AIDS, assistance with starting income generation projects for poor families, school fees sponsorships, outreach and needs assessment and other projects. We are looking to expand our volunteer program to strengthen our work in all these areas. We are also looking to build international friendships and to teach and grow along with volunteers.
