La Semilla LC

Organization Description:

As an independent, non-profit organization we provide free after school tutoring and academic enrichment to at-risk elementary school students in the downtown Santa Ana area. Our program runs Mondays through Thursdays, 2:45pm - 5:30pm.

Our goal each day is to support our students as they complete their homework. We emphasize a proper understanding of the homework assigned by the teachers, rather than simply the completion of it. We also have academic enrichment activities for the students. A healthy selection of focused guided reading books are available to encourage students to read about various topics in an effort to enlarge their understanding of the world and improve their comprehension. We work with students to practice math facts and other activities requiring the use of basic addition, subtraction, and multiplication.

As a part of the larger Amigos program our students have access to other enrichment programs before or after their academics. Weekly classes in dance, art, music and reading are available.
