Lena Park Community Development Corporation
LPCDC was founded in 1968 by community residents concerned with affordable housing needs and youth development. In 1970 Lena Park expanded into a multi-service community center, and incorporated as the Lena Park Community Development Corporation (LPCDC) in 1973. In recognition of this new agency, the Combined Jewish Philanthropies transferred ownership of the YMHA Hecht House, 150 American Legion Highway, to Lena Park. The organization is a SOMWBA certified.
Over the decades, LPCDC has impacted thousands of children, youth, and families as a key service provider of quality affordable housing and effective human services. In 2009 LPCDCs Board determined that it was best to suspend their social services and only provide affordable housing while they reassess their mission. LPCDC identified unique services needed for the community through a community assessment/planning process provided by an external consultant. This assessment has guided LPCDC in its reopening this April 30, 2015. Also during that time LPCDC sold a portion of their building and completed a $1.4Mil renovation to its half of the building. This was a strategic move on the part of the Board who wanted to downsize and better the facility, have more resources, and have an environmentally friendly building that is more manageable to maintain. Program areas at the new Community Center include: Holistic Family Support, Tech Café, Visual/Performing Arts, Recreation, and Youth Education. Also there are six affordable housing developments LPCDC manages which represent 1,300+ residents who often access our programs and services.
