Manna For Life Ministries

Organization Description:

I was hungry and you gave me something to eat. I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink. I was a stranger and you took me in. I was sick and you looked after me. I was in prison and you visited me. Matthew 25:35-36 Manna For Life Ministries is a 501c3 non-profit Christian organization that believes in the Holy Bible. We affect the lives of the people that come to us by providing them with food, clothing, spiritual direction, and most of all friendship. We want to show the sick, the poor, the weak, the abused, and the trapped that there is a God and He loves them very much. Manna is a place of refuge from the storm, a place of safety in a perilous world. Our doors are open to everyone regardless of race, creed, religion, age or sex. We want to enable people not just give them a handout. Our staff will treat you with respect and dignity, without judgment. Manna For Life partners with local agencies such as The Freedom House, The Salvation Army, The United Way, St. Vincent Depaul. Goodwill Industries, The Golden House, The Hmong Association, The Green Bay Community Foundation, and many others to improve the services that we are able to provide. We also work closely with area churches to encourage a spirit of volunteerism and involvement in our community. Manna For Life operates a thrift store that is stocked completely with tax-deductible donations from generous people in the community. The clothing, furniture, dishes etc are sold at rummage sale prices or given freely to those in need. Any money that the thrift store makes is then funneled into the food pantry. We are able to buy food at 16 cents per pound from Feeding America of Northeast Wisconsin. The food we buy is then matched pound for pound buy the Emergency Food Assistance Program provided by the federal Government. This food is then packaged by us into boxes according to family size and distributed on a weekly basis. Currently we are serving approximately 125 families per week. Jim and Linda Hogenson founded Manna For Life Ministries in 1998. At that time it was merely an outreach run from the basement of their two-bedroom home. Soon the amount of donations was overwhelming and expansion was necessary. Our first location was at 618 Bodart St. Green Bay, WI, which we quickly outgrew. From there we moved to the corner of Main and Monroe just blocks away from the first location but with much more space. As we continued to grow so did our ability to help more and more people. Today we are located on the corner of Elizabeth St. and University Ave. on Green Bays east side our facility occupies over 20,000 square feet in two buildings. With Gods grace, a little hard work and determination we have grown to become Brown Countys third largest and most accessible food pantry operation.
