Maverick Boys & Girls Club of Amarillo
The overarching goal of the Maverick Boys & Girls Club is to provide at-risk youth from low-income families in under-served neighborhoods a safe, nurturing environment that enhances opportunities for youth, ages 6-18, to develop the qualities necessary to become responsible citizens. The programs are designed to reach children from disadvantaged economic, social, and family circumstances and are led by a trained staff. Children are involved in activities designed around five core objectives:
• Character & Leadership Development: Empower youth to support and influence their club and community, sustain meaningful relationships with others, develop a positive self-image, participate in the democratic process and respect their own and other’s cultural identities. • Education & Career Development: Enable youth to become proficient in basic educational disciplines, apply learning to everyday situations, and embrace technology to achieve success in a career. • Health & Life Skills: To develop young people’s capacity to engage in positive behaviors that nurture their own well-being, set personal goals, and develop the competencies to live successfully as self-sufficient adults. • The Arts: Enable youth to develop their creativity and cultural awareness through knowledge an appreciation of the visual arts, crafts, performing arts, and creative writing. • Sports, Fitness and Recreation: To develop fitness, positive use of leisure time, skills for stress management, appreciation for the environment and social and interpersonal skills.
The mission of the Maverick Boys & Girls Club of Amarillo is to inspire and enable all young people, especially those from disadvantaged circumstances, to realize their full potential as productive, responsible and caring citizens – this mission guides every action of our organization.
