Miryante Orphans Home

Organization Description:

Miryante Orphans Home is a Non-profit project funded by International Donors through the Catholic Church. Children who stay at the Orphans Home are placed through local church leaders in the surrounding community. Children must be total orphans, meaning both of their parents have passed away, and they must show that other relatives are unable to support them, or that they have been severely neglected. Orphans residing at Miryante attend local public primary and secondary schools. They are provided with shelter, three meals a day, health care, and psychosocial support. Children live in houses set up as family units with 10-12 children for every one caretaker. Caretakers are trained in nutrition, first aid, and psychosocial support as well as general care of children.

In addition to the orphanage, we also operate a vocational school and farm on site. Although Miryante strives to farm as much of its own food as possible, there is still the additional costs of labor for farming, caretakers and managers salaries, school fees, clothing, and health care. Because of these costs, Miryante relies on the generous support of donors and sponsors of individual children. Money from donors can either go towards specific projects such as housing or animal husbandry, or towards sponsoring an individual child to cover their cost of living. All donations to Miryante Orphans Home comes through the Columbus Diocese in Ohio, USA and then through Ft. Portal Diocese in Uganda.
