MnCoSA
Minnesota Circles of Support and Accountability (MnCoSA) is based on a successful, nationally recognized restorative justice model. A Circle is made up of Circle Members (volunteers), a Core Member (an individual released from prison), and an Outer Circle of professionals. Circle Members work in teams of 4-7 with a Core Member and are supported by an Outer Circle of professionals. Circles meet regularly to provide support to the Core Member as he/she begins to lead a responsible, productive, and accountable life while working on reintegration into the community. This includes tasks such as: finding housing, employment, transportation, medical assistance, mental/chemical health care, friendship and acceptance.
This is an opportunity for anyone who is interested in being a positive example in the life of someone who is facing a difficult life transition or wants to be involved in the criminal justice field.
As part of the MnCoSA process staff will take volunteers into a correctional facility in order to begin meeting with their Core Member before he/she is released. This program provides a vivid view of what it's like to re-enter society and provides an in-depth understanding of the criminal justice system.
