More Than Carpentry Christian Ministries
MTC trains individuals who are unemployed or underemployed in a low-income area of St. Louis. We provide on-the-job training in the skills of carpentry and cabinetmaking including classroom instruction. We also provide life skills training, financial management training, Bible Studies, mentoring, and other necessary support to create an environment of success. After successful completion of the 16-week pre-apprenticeship program, graduates are placed into paid apprenticeships where they continue to gain skills and experience. Successful completion of the apprenticeship grants them a certificate from the Department of Labor, Office of Apprenticeship, which is recognized nation-wide.
Additionally, MTC seeks to reach our physical neighbors with love as we participate in community outreach/development. These opportunities include inviting the community to the life skills training, financial management training and Bible Studies, community beautification projects, and a bicycle ministry that teaches the youth how to maintain a bicycle and lets them earn a bike of their own. Future projects planned include a community garden and other services as the needs are identified.
More Than Carpentry Christian Ministries seeks to serve individuals and the community of Wellston by integrating Christian discipleship into neighborhood outreach, personal relationships, life skills mentoring, carpentry education, and apprenticeship training.
More Than Carpentry Christian Ministries exists to serve others because the Board of Directors, Staff, and other leadership of MTC are motivated to serve as a result of their callings as Christians, followers of Jesus Christ. Officers and staff of MTC subscribe to a statement faith, commonly known as the ƒƒ ‚ƒ ƒ‚ ‚‚ ƒƒ ‚¢ ƒ‚ ‚€ ƒ‚ ‚œApostles ƒƒ ‚ƒ ƒ‚ ‚‚ ƒƒ ‚¢ ƒ‚ ‚€ ƒ‚ ‚™ Creed, ƒƒ ‚ƒ ƒ‚ ‚‚ ƒƒ ‚¢ ƒ‚ ‚€? which has been affirmed by Christians living in many nations and cultures, speaking many languages, and throughout many centuries since the earliest generations of Christian believers. Whatever differences in specific theological beliefs may exist among individuals in leadership at MTC, we remain united with one another and with fellow Christians throughout the world and throughout generations as servants of Jesus Christ, our only Lord and Savior. Therefore, we affirm together:
We believe in God, the Father almighty,
Creator of heaven and earth.
We believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord.
He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit,
and born of the Virgin Mary.
He suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died, and was buried.
He descended to the dead.
On the third day he rose again.
He ascended into heaven,
and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again to judge the living and the dead.
We believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy universal Church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and the life everlasting.
