Norris Square Neighborhood Project
Norris Square Neighborhood Project was founded in 1973 by a local fifth grade schoolteacher seeking alternative learning experiences for neighborhood children. NSNP is a community-run, multi-cultural, bilingual, urban environmental learning center, which provides a safe environment for children and parents to learn about their greater environment. It is a place where neighbors can meet, exchange ideas, and solve problems. Currently, we receive funding from the United Way and a number of other organizations. Our program typically serves 50 students in from ages 6 ? 17. Students attend the program five days a week from 3:00 to 6:00.
The After-School Program was one of NSNP?s first programs. This program is designed to be educational, culturally enriching and to foster self-expression, exploration and development as well as team work. The mission of NSNP?s after-school is to provide academically enriched activities that are engaging, interactive, and fun. We strive to educate youth about the environment, build a sense of self and self-esteem, encourage cooperation and leadership among youth, promote self-expression through creative and performing arts, offer literacy enrichment opportunities, and provide recreational activities.
