Pathlight

Organization Description:

PathLight International serves at-risk children by providing educational opportunities that integrate faith and learning. Through service teams, scholarships, and teacher training, as well as connecting needs and resources, PathLight helps vulnerable children become the self-reliant leaders of tomorrow. We’re making a difference. Read how there is hope through faith and learning.

By integrating faith with learning, we have an incredible opportunity to transform the physical, emotional, and spiritual lives of the children in the classroom.

Short-Term Service Projects
PathLight organizes and leads one- to three-week trips for groups that want to impact the educational needs of children. Custom-designed for the talents and interests of each group, but always focusing on real needs in the context of cultural sensitivities, these programs can be transforming for everyone involved.

Expectations for these service projects are high, and they are opportunities to truly make a difference in the lives of children. Whether repairing a roof, upgrading a classroom, providing a computer workshop, or simply leading a group of kids in worship, the goal of PathLight is to create relationships that are long-lasting, transforming, and guided by the Holy Spirit.

Sponsorships
Education is often unaffordable in places where people live on only a dollar a day. Even government-subsidized education is too expensive. In some regions, a child needs to work for the family just to survive. PathLight has established a high school sponsorship program that not only provides financial help to keep kids in school, but also builds them socially and spiritually. This holistic approach develops students into adults with the skills necessary to break the cycle of poverty in their community.

Teacher Training
PathLight provides an annual Teacher Training Conference for the teachers of Belize. Volunter "master" teachers work interactively with local teachers to help them be more effective in the classroom. PathLight's conferences are recognized by the Ministry of Education and qualify for continuing education credit to the participants. The 2010 conference served 90 Belizean teachers, who went back to their classrooms encouraged and better equipped to help the children of Belize.

Conferences and Workshops
PathLight hosts conferences and workshops at its Jaguar Creek facility in Belize. Through these events, Belizeans as well as North Americans are able to come together for training, roundtable discussions, worship, or simply a time of rest and renewal.

Mission Statement:

PathLight International believes that the at-risk children of today can be tomorrow leaders. That's why our mission is to help at-risk children and youth see the world through the eyes of Jesus Christ. As such, education becomes more than the mere delivery of content: its the art of seeing all of life as Jesus sees it, of drawing closer to Him in how we think, what we know, and how we live.

Organizational Statement of Faith:

We believe in God

* There is only one true holy and loving God. His creation, and Jesus Christ reveal God’s own power and glory, grace and mercy. The Lord our God alone is God, just and true, perfect in being and trustworthy in action.
* The Lord our God is infinite and beyond imagination; our minds can never fully know God nor do our hearts completely grasp his ways. The Lord our God is faithful and steadfast, unfailing in word and deed.
* The Lord our God is Triune—one being in three persons—The Father, Son, and Holy Spirit are equal and eternal.
* The Lord our God, Creator and Sustainer of all that is, redeems the world from its fallen state and finishes his saving work in a new heaven and a new earth.

. . . the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit

* God the Father is the source of all that is good. He is Father to his eternal Son, Jesus Christ, and to all who are adopted as his sons and daughters through faith in Jesus Christ. He has sovereignty over us, affection toward us, and glory for us.
* God the Son became incarnate in Jesus Christ—one person in two natures, fully human and fully divine—who was conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary. In his life and in his death on the cross he conquered the powers of darkness, paid the penalty for our sin, and demonstrated God’s love for the world.
* In his bodily resurrection his life and death are proven worthwhile and he is revealed to be the only judge and redeemer of the world. He intercedes for us now before the Father and will return in glory.
* God the Holy Spirit is Lord and Life-Giver, the one who empowered Jesus Christ and who empowers his people to continue God’s work today. God the Holy Spirit convicts us of sin, brings us to faith in Jesus Christ, and conforms us to the image of Christ. The Spirit inspired the authors of the Bible and guides the church in its faithful translation and interpretation. The Bible, consisting of the Old and New Testaments, is God-breathed and true, without error in all that it teaches; it is the supreme authority and only infallible guide for Christian faith and conduct—teaching, rebuking, and training us in righteousness.

. . . the Author of our salvation

* God created humankind for an unbroken relationship with God, one another, and the rest of creation. Through Adam’s disobedience, we fell into sin and now suffer alienation and brokenness. The effects of sin are so pervasive that apart from God ‚’s grace we are lost and dead. Only by God’s grace through faith in Jesus Christ are we saved and made alive.
* In bringing us to faith in Jesus Christ, the Spirit incorporates us into the body of Christ, his church, and the community of all believers in heaven and on earth. The church is called to bear witness to Christ among the nations by praising God, preaching the good news, discipling believers, healing the sick, serving the poor, setting free the oppressed, and caring for creation. The gifts and fruit of the Holy Spirit empower the church for this mission.
* Jesus Christ will return one day in his glorified body to judge the living and the dead. Those who do not believe in him will be raised to suffer forever a just punishment. Those who believe in him will be transformed, their bodies raised imperishable and incorruptible, to live and reign with him forever in a new heaven and a new earth in which there will be all that is good and true and beautiful, but no sorrow, no tears, and no evil thing.
