R.E.A.C.T. Initiative

Organization Description:

Are you interested in working with youth? Do you have experience with educational and biblical principles? If so, we are looking for you! During June, July, and August each year the REACT Initiative works with low-income youth from grades 3 through 8 in a variety of fun, educational trips and activities. We schedule approximately 10-15 outings each summer, as well as informational events and gatherings. All events are free to participants and include meals and back to school supplies. Past trips have included day trips to Washington DC, Philadelphia, and New York City. We are currently in need of support in many areas including: technical assistance, driving, event planning, bookkeeping, and more. Volunteer opportunities are available throughout the year. Please join our fun and dedicated staff in their efforts to better the lives of the wonderful children of Baltimore. Students are eligible to volunteer and can earn volunteer hours toward graduation. Visit us online to learn more about what we do and how you can get involved.
During the school year we hold Bible study twice a month and provide tutoring as needed to students enrolled in our program. In October we took a day trip to Philadelphia and the Adventure Aquarium in Camden, New Jersey. The R.E.A.C.T. Initiative is also working to provide coats to children in need during the winter months. In addition, throughout the year we collect clothing and offer it to families in need.

We would like to provide an alternative Spring Break in 2009 during which the youth can choose from a few options for volunteer work either within their surrounding community or in other areas inside and/or outside of Maryland.

We would eventually like to have youth volunteers from more advantaged communities work with the youth enrolled in our program. This would provide an opportunity for more students to earn service learning hours toward their high school graduation.

Mission Statement:

The Rehabilitative Education and Christian Teaching Initiative, R.E.A.C.T., is a nonprofit organization and outreach project of Victory In Christ Church Ministries, Inc. At R.E.A.C.T. we strive to make a substantial, positive impact on society by addressing issues in the pre-teen and teen populations including, pregnancy, substance abuse, illiteracy, and failure to graduate. This biblically and academically based program was established to address the growing needs of youth with limited resources and exposure to positive outlets. It is our mission to instill foundational values and morals that will enable youth to make responsible decisions and to ultimately make a smooth and successful transition into adulthood.

The R.E.A.C.T. Initiative was established with focus on Proverbs 22:6, “Train a child in the way that he should go, and when he is old he will not turn from it.” At R.E.A.C.T. we strive to impart additional biblical values including the importance of the following premises: character; prudence; humility; direction; integrity; selflessness; discipline; wisdom; security; legacy. It is our mission to educate and rehabilitate today’s youth by God’s Holy Word.
