Reading Partners

Organization Description:

Reading Partners is a literacy non-profit that teams up with elementary schools in under-served communities to provide one-on-one literacy tutoring to struggling elementary student readers. We do this by bringing in community volunteers who commit just one hour per week to make a significant difference in the life of a child.

Anyone interested in education or willing to help change the life of a student is welcome to volunteer with us. No prior experience is necessary, and we provide initial and ongoing training support for our tutors. We are actively seeking volunteers to support our students at both Beverly Park Elementary and Sanislo Elementary School.

Reading Partners works! Before enrollment, the typical Reading Partners student acquired an average of only 0.6 months of reading skills for every month of instruction. With the supplemental one-on-one instruction that our volunteers provide, students typically end the year gaining an average of 1.6 months of reading skills per month in the program, more than doubling their rate of learning.
