ROCK Teen Center

Organization Description:

We are beginning our sixth year of providing after-school educational programs, which focus on increasing our students’ overall academic achievement and inspiring each to reach their full potential. The board, staff, and volunteers are dedicated to improving the lives and character of the community youth, between the ages of 12 and 19 years. Approximately thirty-five students visit the teen center daily, while over one hundred youth are regular weekly visitors. Seven hundred youth have used ROCK’s services since February 2001, when the doors first opened.

ROCK offers a safe place for teens to enjoy recreation, access technology in the CTC, build job, leadership, and life skills, and grow socially and academically. ROCK’s after-school programs seek to prevent juvenile delinquency and help teens succeed in life by accomplishing the following program objectives:

· Increase youth involvement in positive and safe after-school activities;

· Develop youth relationships with positive adult role models;

· Enhance youth life skills, academic achievement and study skills;

· Encourage youth participation in civic matters through service-learning; and

· Improve youth technology and job skills.

In addition to being a recreational "hang-out" for local teens, the Teen Center offers academic mentorship after-school. During this time, trained adult and student volunteers supervise the Teen Center. The programs consist of:

Mission Statement:

At Reach Our Community Kids, our desire is to inspire each teen who we serve to reach his or her full potential. We accomplish this by engaging youth and mentoring them in a positive after-school environment. We instill hope and provide educational and personal growth opportunities. We are compelled to serve our community in this way through our commitment to demonstrate Christ’s love.

Organizational Statement of Faith:

We believe in a powerful, loving, personal God, the God of the Bible, existing in three co-equal persons: The Father, the Son (Jesus) and the Holy Spirit. We believe Jesus came in the flesh, died on the cross and rose from the dead to pay for the sins of the world. We believe that through faith in Him we are forgiven of our sins, given the Holy Spirit and the promise of eternal life.
