Rosie's Place

Organization Description:

Rosie’s Place offers a number of important services to assist poor and homeless women. Among these are:

1. Permanent and overnight housing. Thirty-two formerly homeless women live in our three permanent residents, including a home for women with HIV/AIDS and an apartment for medically frail women. Each night, twenty women find safety and comfort in our Overnight Program, while advocates work with them to find permanent homes.

2. Lunch and dinner through our dining room. 6,500 nutritionally balanced meals are served each month in our cheery dining room, where women not only share a meal but also learn about other opportunities, meet our advocates, and gain access to a variety of services, such as legal advocates, housing specialists and job search specialists.

3. Advocacy services and links to a range of social and community programs including mental health counseling, substance abuse treatment, medical care, housing search, income assistance and more.

4. Economic development opportunities, include the Women's Craft Cooperative, the Food Cooperative, and access to job training and educational programs through the Sawyer Scholar Fund.

Rosie’s Place has established a tradition of innovation and creativity. Our twenty five year history has provided us with the experience, expertise and network of supporters that allow us to take risks on behalf of the women we serve. By blazing our own trail, we have created models of housing, direct service, organizing and advocacy that are powerful.

Partnership model or service for churches:
Many churches and other religious oprganizations help us by bringing groups of up to 6 people to serve or cater meals for 175 women and children

Mission Statement:

The mission of Rosie's Place is to provide a safe and nurturing environment to help poor and homeless women maintain their dignity, seek opportunity and find security in their lives. As the first drop in center and emergency housing for women in the United States, we offer a sanctuary where vulnerable women find refuge, where despair collides with hope and where justice confronts oppression.

Since opening in 1974, Rosie's Place has stood steadfast to its commitment to helping women survive and create long term permanent and individual solutions through advocacy, housing, education, healthcare and more. We work to find individualized solutions, treating each woman with the utmost respect and offering unconditional love and support. By building trusting relationships with our guests, we help them realize their dreams.
